New
York Disc Replacement Center
Phone: 212.844.6900
The
Spine Institute of New York is the region's first approved
center for the Charité Artificial
disc, which has a clinical history spanning over 15 years through
thousands of implants worldwide.
What is Disc Replacement?
Artificial Disc Replacement is a
new surgical technique that offers an alternative to lumbar spinal
fusion surgery. Disc Replacement is similar to hip or knee
replacement and offers a new surgical option for treating spinal
instability. Disc Replacement replaces one or more degenerated
discs with new, artificial ones. This innovative technique stabilizes
the spine, while preserving its mobility. To patients for whom
it is appropriate, it has a quicker recovery process, involves
less pain, and allows a faster return to normal activity.
Who Can Benefit?
The best candidates for Disc Replacement
are those with overall good health and generally strong bones
who suffer from chronic lower back pain as a result of degenerative
disc disease. Cervical Disc Replacement clinical trials
will soon be available at the Spine Institute.
Why Spine Institute of New
York?
Spine Institute has been the only
center in the NY metropolitan region to provide the Charité Artificial
Disc technology over the past four years. To secure our
role as a center for disc replacement surgery, our surgeons participated
in the developmental phase of this new technology. Collectively, our surgeons
have more experience in disc replacement surgery than anyone
else in the United States. As a result, the Spine Institute of
New York houses a Disc Replacement training center for orthopedic
surgeons to learn this technology. To ensure our standard of
excellence, we monitor our results on an ongoing basis, so that
you, our patients, receive the benefits of every new advance
in this remarkable technique.
